The 6 most beautiful cities to travel alone
1. Prague, the Czech Republic
The capital of the Czech Republic is the most beautiful city I have ever visited. The architecture inspired by the Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque and Art-nouveau periods are spellbinding. The colors of some buildings enhance the charm of the city. You will never get bored in the city of a Hundred Spires, even during the off-season.
My recommendations:
- A historical food tour with “Eating Europe” where a guide will take you around Prague trying out the local cuisine while, at the same time, recounting the local history. You will enjoy gingerbread, duck with sauerkraut, braised beef and cranberry compote and delicious desserts in lovely places.
- See the city the easy way with an E-scooters Tour from Euro Segway. A friendly guide will show you all of the stunning scenery and secret places of Prague’s royal district; an amazing experience not to be missed!
2. Taipei, Taiwan
Taipei is the city where I witnessed an absolutely different landscape. I walked 42km in four days, I didn’t want to take the subway, so I don’t miss anything in this city. Taipei is known for museums, temples, night markets and street food. At every corner, there is something to see and you are quickly imbued with the Taiwanese culture. It is the perfect destination for a solo travel tour.
My recommendations:
- Try Gua Bao and fried calamari with a homemade passion fruit juice in one of the many night markets.
- Watch the guard changing ceremony at Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall.
- Take the train to Tamsui, a district of New Taipei City, which is situated near the Tamsui River bank, for a half-day excursion. Looking at the sunset while eating seafood at the Fisherman’s Warf was the best moment of my whole trip.
3. Havana, Cuba
If you want to go back to the 50’s and if you want to discover an old colonial city, Havana is the right place to be. The charm of the vintage American cars, the streets with different colors and the people’s clothes fascinate me. You can’t find the same atmosphere that is a combination of music, joy and poverty, anywhere else in the world. It is also a dream destination for beach lovers.
My recommendation:
- Learn the steps of the Cuban salsa Dance at Casa de la Musica, a club with live music.
- Take a taxi to Salto de Sorao to discover the natural beauty of Cuba. After following a walking path, you will find the Soroa Waterfall where you can also swim. Taxis wait for you to visit and bring you back for a very cheap price.
4. Bordeaux, south of France
Bordeaux is a city port on the west bank of the Garonne river in South West France. It is famous both for its wine and for its architecture. It is known as the “wine capital of the world” and is also classified as a “city of art and history”. Bordeaux is a very lively, sunny and pleasant city in which to live.
My recommendations:
-
Explore this historical city by foot, by bicycle, or by tram. Bordeaux is especially known for its many 18th century buildings, but you will discover also a lot of impressive buildings and places from medieval times (gothic churches, the cathedral, and the gate of walls).
- Discover the amazing and modern Museum of World Wine. Learn a lot about the history of winemaking throughout the world and have the opportunity to enjoy tasting different wines while enjoying a panoramic view of the town.
- Retail therapy lovers don’t forget to head off to Ste Catherine street, and experience shopping on the longest pedestrian street in France.
5. Dubrovnik, in Croatia
You will be astonished by the beauty of Croatia and impressed by Dubrovnik, this old walled seaside city. This well preserved fortress town, known as the pearl of the Adriatic, will take you back in time. Because it has become one of the most popular destination in Europe, try to go there in the off season.
My recommendations:
- Explore on your own: walk the medieval walls around the city enjoying gorgeous views on Adriatic and of the old town. Take a break at a bar just outside the city wall, on the rocks, where you can sunbathe and swim as well.
-
Kayak-Experience to see the city and its surroundings from the ashore ! Enjoy a leisurely day of kayaking, swimming and snorkeling. You will love the views of quiet beaches, and discover hidden caves.
- Eat at a restaurant with a breathtaking view: Dubravka1836 Restaurant & Café- Mediterranean casual dining- it more economical than most of the restaurants with nice views. I recommend the seafood risotto.
6. Dublin, Ireland
Dublin is a lively and welcoming capital. You will like its cultural richness with its historical monuments such as Trinity College, Dublin Castle, Christ church cathedral, as well as its museums (some of them are free). In the evening, you can enjoy the friendly atmosphere of its countless bars or be entertained by the greyhound races.
My recommendations :
-
Brunch at Sophie’s with a 360-degree view of Dublin. Try the eggs benedicts or the pancakes in this elegant and modern restaurant. Don’t forget to book in advance here.
-
Irish « Celtic nights » at the Arlington hotel. It is a touristic activity but definitely worth it. You can see the best Irish Dance shows while eating some typical Irish food.
- Afternoon in Howth, a fishing village, 40 min drive from the city center by bus. Walk along the coast. You can try one of many seafood restaurants or buy mussels and cook them at home for a delicious meal.
